Laikingland featured in the latest issue of Crafts Magazine

Founded by Nick Regan and Martin Smith, Laikingland works with a host of famous names to create machines for playing. Kara O’Reilly pays a visit to the fun factory.

At its most basic level, there is something about the sculptures made by Laikingland that awakens the not-so-dormant inner child in everyone who sees them. But what do they put their appeal down to? Well, as their literature says, Laikingland is about making ‘beautifully crafted limited-edition kinetic objects that engage, as well as evoke a sense of play and nostalgia.’ Smith agrees: ‘That’s our company philosophy, our core values. But what’s its purpose? To make people smile. That’s important for the soul. It’s about mischief, something to brighten the mood.’
